Last Night in Soho

Edgar Wright's doppelganger horror thriller is a classic example of a message in transit. The movie begins with a young fashion designer traveling back in time to the 1960s to live the life of a beautiful singer. As she relives the past, her world is torn apart by nighttime neon phantoms. Ultimately, this film's themes of suffocating nightmares and the stifling of dreams are explored.

Set in the dark, toxic world of Soho, Last Night in Soho is a surprisingly effective thriller. This Edgar Wright film also stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Terence Stamp, and Matt Smith. Diana Rigg, who played the role of Margret, is also featured in the film, making it her final screen appearance. Rigg's character sadly passes away soon after the release of the film.

The film's look is unique and Edgar Wright clearly worked on it. He knows how to cue the music in his films, which makes it almost impossible to criticize this film. As a result, Last Night in Soho is an excellent, if not brilliant, film. However, it does fall short of illuminating the character's past. Unfortunately, this slacks the movie's potential for success.

Wright's re-creation of Eloise's bygone world is haunting. In Fitzrovia, the film was filmed a decade earlier in the same location as Michael Powell's shocker, Peeping Tom. The film features Diana Rigg as her landlady, as well as Terence Stamp as a mysterious old man hanging around a pub. The film's setting evokes the era of the 1960s and the world of the 1950s.

Station Eleven

For fans of dystopian fiction, HBO has a new series that will be sure to hook them. Although the premise is a sci-fi thriller, it's much more grounded in real-life situations.

The first episode of "Station Eleven" is set in Malaysia, but the show expands on Miranda's previous experience with the pandemic, which she saw in Hurricane. While Miranda was in Malaysia, she tries to escape the country on a tanker to avoid the disease, but her attempt ends in disaster as she learns that her brother Arthur has died from the virus. As a result, she's stuck in a hotel, with her pitch partner Jim, trying to keep a casual air. While this might seem a little dramatic, the episode is nonetheless gripping.

A major change is made to the original book, which has been adapted into a series on HBO. The movie version was based on the novel, and stars Lori Petty, David Wilmot, Philippine Velge, Nabhaan Rizwan, and Danielle Deadwyler. The showrunners and writers of the new series are Patrick Somerville, whose previous work includes "Flight" and "The Wire." The HBO adaptation differs in some ways, but overall remains a worthy watch.
